Funding Local Vision
Mayor Boone Bowling announced that the city of Middlesboro will receive $4.6 million in state funding over the next two years to support projects identified in the city’s strategic plan, which was adopted in 2025. The city is slated to receive $1.8 million in July 2026, followed by $2.8 million in 2027.
Focus on Infrastructure and Youth
The first round of funding will be directed toward essential community development, including a comprehensive flood mitigation study and hydrology report. Other planned improvements include the renovation of the City Hall parking lot, the construction of a new farmers market, and the development of youth sports facilities, including soccer fields and a Boys and Girls Club.
Continued Growth
Looking ahead to 2027, the additional funds will be utilized for the construction of a youth sports complex, improved downtown lighting, and cohesive city signage. Mayor Bowling described these allocations as a 'small victory' and a foundational step in the city's long-term vision to foster growth, prevention, and recreational opportunities for all residents.
